BT introduces VPN service for global 21st Century Network

March 14, 2009

BT has launched Intelligent Virtual Private Network (iVPN) service for its 21st Century Network, enabling businesses to access their corporate networks across 172 countries covered by it.

iPVN service will strengthen all IT services on next generation network, such as videoconferencing, call centres, data centres, application optimisation, unified communication and security.

21st Century Network, an IP-based single network for all data and voice is replacing BT’s UK phone networks. The global 21st Century Network is the international network which is used as platform for managed IT services.

BT has shifted its focus in past couple of years to offering IT services. It was earlier focussed only on providing pure communications services.

Claire Ritchie, Marketing Chief of BT Global Services, claimed that launch of VPN was BT’s big step forward. It is the first globally offered service on 21CN platform. The Etherflow Ethernet WAN connection was the first UK service launched on the platform this year.

Ritchie further added that VPN was a big investment for BT. It was helping in getting better customer experience.

According to Ritchie, BT will be introducing internet-based access to VPN on 21st Century Network in next 8 weeks. BT’s AAI (Applications Assured Infrastructure) service will also be started on global platform next year.
